CAMFED
Camfed fights poverty and HIV/AIDS in Africa by educating girls and empowering women to become leaders of change. Camfed’s main goal is to remove the economic obstacles that women and girls in Africa face. Their programs are designed with a community based approach that removes the main hurdles for girls to obtain an education and involves the entire community in the process of educating women and girls. Their programs also support the co-ed schools that these girls attend, emphasizing the importance of education for all children in Africa.
Camfed has received numerous awards for its innovative approach to education. Some of these awards include the Cambridge University Charity of the Year Award, the Goldman Sachs-Fortune Global Women Leaders Award, the International Aid Development Charity of the Year Award, and the Beacon Prize.
We are honored this year to host Kristin Harrison and Rufaro Gwarda, both representatives of Camfed, as our Keynote Speakers for the 59th Session of Berkeley Model United Nations. In addition, all of the money raised by delegates and secretariat members will be donated to Camfed.
