Letter from Under-Secretary General of Outreach
Dear Advisors and Delegates,
I would like to extend to you an invitation to the Berkeley Model United Nations Delegate Workshop for the fall of 2008. The Delegate Workshop is our chance to teach delegates the skills necessary to succeed in MUN conferences. We have two workshops available for students: one to teach new students the basics to survive an MUN conference, and one to refine the talents of older, more experienced students. The Delegate Workshop for 2008 will take place on October 18, and will take place on the UC Berkeley campus, just like the BMUN conference in February.
The Delegate workshop is a day-long activity divided into two parts. The morning of the Workshop will allow students to learn MUN skills from our experienced and well trained secretariat. After being divided into small, personal classes, new students will learn the basic techniques of giving speeches, writing resolutions and caucusing from our secretariat. Experienced students will have a more in depth session covering international issues and important UN documents. These classroom courses provide delegates with the fundamentals to improve their debating skills. Following a break for lunch, students will be able to put their newly learned skills into action in a mock-conference. During the Workshop, we will also hold an advisors meeting allowing you to discuss MUN issues with both other advisors and the BMUN secretariat.
In keeping with BMUN tradition, we are excited to announce scholarships to the most active and enthused schools at our Workshop. As an incentive for delegates to work hard during the day, BMUN will provide scholarships towards student fees for our conference in late February. The three schools with the most active delegates will be rewarded for their commitment and interest in Model United Nations.
By next September you can expect information about the Delegate Workshop under the Outreach section of our website, and in your mailbox at the beginning of next school year. Any questions, concerns or comments can be sent to me at delegate_workshop@bmun.net. I wish you all the best in your upcoming school year and look forward to seeing you in October.
Sincerely,
Nicholas Walder
