Scholarship


Berkeley Model United Nations is committed to providing opportunities to students from socioeconomically unprivileged backgrounds. One of the ways we reach out to students who are discouraged from coming to our conference due to financial reasons is our Alumni Scholarship Program. Established in honor of countless BMUN alumni who have made special contributions to the conference and the delegates, BMUN Alumni Scholarship is a step forward in making MUN a realistic opportunity for every high
school student.

HOW TO APPLY

  1. Download the BMUN Alumni Scholarship application as a PDF or as a Word Doc from the BMUN website and fill out the application form. You may write the answers to short answer questions and the essay on a separate sheet of paper and attach it to the application.
  2. Have the School Advisor Recommendation form filled out by your MUN class/club advisor. If you do not have a MUN class/club advisor, please ask a faculty member that is best able to fill out the form.
  3. Mail the completed application form, your essay, and Advisor Recommendation Form to the following address by February 12008:

SELECTION PROCESS

  1. The winners of the scholarships will be chosen by a committee of BMUN secretariat.
  2. Selections will be made based on both merit and need. The scholarships are intended for those students who have shown outstanding achievements and promise in school but cannot attend Berkeley Model United Nations conference due to financial constraints.
  3. 15 winners will be chosen out of the applicant pool. Each winner will get a monetary award to be used in attending the 56th Session of BMUN. The breakdown of the monetary awards is as follows:
  • Up to five applicants will receive $250 each
  • Up to five applicants will receive $100 each
  • Up to five applicants will receive $50 each
  1. Winners will be notified via phone or email by February 1, 2008. Each winner must accept the award by February 9 by contacting us by phone or email. If an applicant is offered a scholarship but fails to notify us by February 9, the offer will be rescinded and that scholarship will be offered to another applicant.
  2. The payment of the scholarship will be made in the form of a check from Berkeley Model United Nations. Each recipient can pick up his/her check at any time during the conference in March. Each recipient must present a receipt of at least of amount of the scholarship amount for fees that have gone into attending BMUN.
